Mathematics is used by all individuals in everyday life. In science, mathematics is an essential tool for nearly all scientific studies. Scientists use in it designing experiments, analyzing data, expressing precisely their findings by mathematical formulas, and making predictions on the basis of these findings. Such physical sciences as astronomy, chemistry and physics rely heavily on mathematics. Social sciences, economics, psychology, and sociology also depend greatly on statistics and several other branches of mathematics. Economists use computers to create mathematical models of the economic systems.
The Department of Mathematics at the JIS University is a research oriented department with a strong interest in preparing the next generation of mathematicians, scientists and engineers for successful careers in industry, research and business. Our goal is to be among the best mathematics departments in the country by creating an environment that supports outstanding research and to establish an international reputation as a Centre for research and teaching in mathematics by pursuing collaborative programs with highly reputed national and international institutions.
The Department was established in 2015. The department has competent faculties with wide knowledge in pure & applied Mathematics. The broad areas of specialization of the faculties are Algebra, Analysis, Optimization, Continuum Mechanics, Fuzzy mathematics etc. The Department conducts course for Ph.D. degree in Mathematics (as per UGC guideline). Our department wishes to provide high level quality teaching as well as research to cultivate scholars so that they become competent enough to face the global challenges from academic perspective as well as from industry. The faculties interact with various national and international bodies, research centers and Universities. The computer lab is used by faculty members and students for their research.
Duration: 3 Years (Minimum)
Eligibility: Candidates should have M.Sc. in Mathematics (Pure or Applied) degree and they have to qualify JIS University Entrance Examination.
We have a rich collection of books and journals for students and scholars in library to create research ambience. We also have a computer laboratory equipped with internet facilities and with latest software such as Mathematica, Mat lab and Latex. The main propose of the laboratory is to provide the required facilities for the students, research scholars and faculty members to carry over the computational tasks related to their study as well as research works. The Department is well equipped with the necessary educational aids.
A mathematician is a person whose primary area of study or research is mathematics. Mathematicians are concerned with particular problems related to logic, space, transformations, numbers and more general ideas which encompass these concepts. Mathematicians use mathematical theory, computational techniques, algorithms and the latest computer technology to solve economic, scientific, engineering, physics, and business problems. If you have an affinity for numbers, you can pursue a career in teaching. A mathematics faculty is always on demand as this is considered one of the main subjects throughout higher studies. It is a highly paid job in India. Mathematicians who work in academia usually have a mix of teaching and research responsibilities. Mathematics offer opportunities in Software, Insurance, Market Research, Education, Securities, Banking Sector, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics and Technical Branches etc.
