About the Program
The Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a two-year postgraduate program offered in accordance with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) regulations. This program is designed for graduates who have successfully completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from a PCI-approved institution. The course provides an in-depth understanding of the chemical, analytical, and mechanistic aspects of drug molecules, with a strong emphasis on advanced medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and modern drug design. It also fosters skills in analytical instrumentation, computer-aided drug discovery (CADD), and pharmaceutical process chemistry, which are essential for both academic research and industrial practice. The curriculum, spread over four semesters, includes structured coursework, laboratory training, and a research-based dissertation, encouraging critical thinking, innovation, and independent scientific inquiry.
Vision & Mission
Eligibility
The candidate must have passed Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) with at least 55% marks (aggregate) in the B.Pharm degree (5% relaxation may be given to SC/ST/OBC/PwD). Non-GPAT candidates can admitted based on merit with JET (JIS University Entrance Exam). A valid GPAT score is also preferred for admission.
Career Path
The career path for M.Pharm graduates in Pharmaceutical Chemistry is diverse and expanding both in India and abroad. In India, graduates can pursue opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry across various domains such as drug discovery, formulation and development, quality assurance/control, analytical R&D, and regulatory affairs. Positions like research scientist, formulation chemist, or regulatory associate are common, while government roles such as Drug Inspector or Scientist in agencies like CDSCO, ICMR, and DRDO are also available. Academia offers teaching and research positions, especially after qualifying GPAT or NET, with further prospects in PhD or postdoctoral research. Start-ups and entrepreneurship in areas like custom synthesis, cosmeceuticals, and pharmaceutical consultancy are emerging fields as well. Internationally, M.Pharm graduates are well-positioned to pursue PhD and postdoctoral research in countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia, especially in advanced fields like nanomedicine, medicinal chemistry, targeted drug delivery, and AI-driven drug design. Multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Novartis, Sanofi, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Roche, Merck, and AstraZeneca offer roles in R&D, formulation development, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory affairs. Graduates may also find specialized roles in cheminformatics, intellectual property, and toxicology. Proficiency in scientific tools, good research publications, and strong communication skills, along with relevant certifications (like IELTS or TOEFL for study/work abroad), significantly enhance global employability.
